About Parker Genné

Parker Genné is an Artist and Educator from Minneapolis, who has been bringing her hit cabaret comedy show Ms. Luisa Eats to stages in Minneapolis, San Francisco, New York and Scotland since 2008 and just launched new company Folktopia. 

“For the last decade, I have created music-theater and cabaret works, combining my love of stories – personal, historical and folk – into multidisciplinary productions. Using folktales and history as a starting point for creation, I see these stories as a framework or meaningful reference for all our lives. I’m curious about how these tales might act as a common language between people, and ultimately may have the power to bring people together. Creating work in collaboration with interdisciplinary artists, I am interested in both my own and my collaborators’ connections between the story onstage and the stories that we encounter in our personal lives. What meaning can we find in the tales that might have the capacity to change our own and, possibly, our audiences lives? When verbal language doesn’t work for communication, my artistic practice has found that movement and music can be used as a universal language between people. My productions weave together movement, music, text, and minimal props/sets, exploring and discovering what is the best narrative tool. This exploration happens in my work as a cabaret performer, leader of new company Folktopia, former co-founder/artistic director/lead performer of theater company Impossible Salt (IS), and as a master teaching artist with social-impact organization Kairos Alive!.”
