Impossible Salt tells stories to make us thirst for the truth behind the fantastical. They are an ensemble of musician-performers inspired by diverse folk traditions. This team of collaborators brings together a rich background of high-level training in classical music, improvisation, theatre and folk music. This talented ensemble digs deep into their voices, bodies, and imaginations to create gentle, beautiful, rare new work.
Impossible Salt was founded in 2013 by Emilia Allen and Parker Genné after they realized they were in love with the same thing. The company premiered their first production Tatterhood at the 2014 MN Fringe Festival to much acclaim and their second show Heartless, followed at the 2015 MN Fringe and garnered this response: There is singing, but it doesn't feel like a musical. There's acting, but it doesn't feel like a play. There's dancing, but it doesn't feel like a dance show. Instead, it feels like something ancient unfolding, something between a story and a dream.

Once upon a time, before darkness and cold could be dispelled with the flick of a switch, Yuletide meant more than the promise that light and warmth would soon return. As the creatures of cold and shadow prowl ever closer, a mysterious stranger emerges from the forest, speaking in an unfamiliar tongue. Can this frightening vagrant possibly protect us from ferocious trolls, from the wrath of the unhappy nisse, and even from the dreaded joláköttin?
Through the original work, The Stranger, Minneapolis-based theatre ensemble Impossible Salt weaves interactive storytelling with song and music to stir your soul to bring Nordic myths legends and fairytales to life in a way you’ve never seen before.
This 45 minute roaming performance begins in the Turnblad Mansion Ballroom and meanders through all six Nordic Christmas Rooms.
Please note this show requires the audience to stand and move although accessible seating is available.
